EMU: 2022-23: Started 29 of the 30 games he played for the Eagles, averaging team-highs in points (19.2) and rebounds (5.8) while ranking third in assists (1.4)… Recorded the first four double-doubles of his collegiate career, including three in league play… His 19.2 points per game average ranked 39th nationally and third in the MAC while he ranked fifth among sophomores nationally and tops in the conference… Finished fourth in the MAC with 2.5 three-point field goals made per game while averaging 33.5 minutes played, which ranks 11th… Connected on 193 shots for 577 points, including 76 made triples… His point total ranked fifth in program history for sophomore scoring while his 76 made three-pointers ranked eighth in a single season… Tallied at least 20 points in 12 games, four of which saw him score at least 30 and one with at least 40… Went off for 43 points at Toledo, Jan. 24, to record the most points in a single game by a MAC player in 2022-23 and the ninth-best single game total in the NCAA… The 43 points, which rank ninth in a single game at EMU, were also the most scored by a MAC player since Jimond Ivey scored 48 for Akron at Ball State, Jan. 27, 2018… In the game at Toledo, Bates hit 15 baskets, including nine triples, with both ranking as the most in a single game among MAC players this year… Prior to his monster game, he scored a then-career-high 36 at South Carolina, Dec. 30, while draining 13 buckets and eight three-pointers… In EMU history, his nine triples at Toledo rank as the second-most in a single game while his eight against USC stands as the fifth-most… Helped the Eagles to back-to-back wins in league play late in the season with 17 points against Western Michigan and 24 against Ball State to help EMU remain in the hunt for the postseason… For his efforts, he was named the MAC Co-Player of the Week (Feb. 27)… Opened the year being selected to the 2022-23 Lou Henson National Player of the Year Watch List (Nov. 22)… Earned a place on the Cancun Challenge Mayan Division All-Tournament Team (Nov. 23) after averaging 15.5 points across two games… Earned a pair of honors from the MAC, including All-MAC Second Team in preseason voting before capping the year as an All-MAC Third Team honoree.
