Walsh Posts First Career Homer, Baseball Drops Series Finale to Pitt

With four strikeouts, senior RHP Bobby Jones reached the 100 career strikeouts milestone
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team concluded its first series of the 2025 season, falling to the University of Pittsburgh, 17-2, in seven innings at Centennial Park Sunday, Feb. 16.
Senior pitcher Bobby Jones (Loveland, Ohio/St. Xavier/Xavier) tallied four strikeouts, reaching the 100 career strikeouts milestone.
How It Happened
Pitt scored the game's first runs in the second, ending the inning up 3-0. It would score seven more in the fourth, growing its lead to 10-0 after four.
Freshman Connor Walsh (Mattawan, Mich./Mattawan) tallied his first hit and homer of his EMU career in the top of the fifth, scoring himself and Ben Schechterman (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora/Ohio State) to put the Eagles on the board.
Pitt would score one run in the fifth and four in the sixth. The game ended after the top of the seventh, resulting in a 17-2 win for the Panthers.
Game Notes
» Walsh tallied his first hit and homer as an Eagle in the top of the fifth. The homer scored two, marking his first multi-RBI game as an Eagle and second consecutive game with at least one RBI.
» Schechterman got his first start as an Eagle while Ethan Davis (Brownstown, Ind./Brownstown Central Marian/Frontier C.C.) and Cal Rutherford (Canton, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) saw their first action on the mound in the Script E.
» Eastern was strong at the plate in advancement opportunities, batting .375 (3-for-8).
» Eastern moved to 0-3 on the season while Pitt improved to 3-0.
