ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University track & field student-athlete Josephine Oloye broke the indoor 300-meter school record, tying for first place in 38.05 seconds at the Wolverine Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan, at the U-M Indoor Track Building, as the Eagles competed for the first time in 2025 Saturday, Jan. 11.

The Eastern women led the way with two first-place finishes and five top-three showings in total while the men posted one first-place finish and four top-three outings. The two teams combined to notch 40 personal-bests. The men's squad paced the programs with 25 while the women achieved 15.

How it Happened – Women
On the track, Oloye (Iwaro-Oka, Nigeria/Geomi Secondary School/Tayelolu Memorial) highlighted the Eastern women's performances as she broke the indoor 300-meter school record, tying for first place in 38.05. Senior Marta Moreno (Wassenaar, Netherlands/American School of The Hague) joined Oloye with a strong showing on the track, as she finished second in the 3000-meter run in a personal-best 9:45.80.

In the field, graduate student Kyra Buffen (Columbus, Ga./Buford/Benedict) earned a first-place finish in the triple jumping 11.79-meters (38-08.25) for the event win. Joining her as a jumper with a top-three finish was Micah Martin (Clinton Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse), who placed second in the high jump, bouncing 1.68-meters (5-06.00). Sophomore Megan Rybitski (Dayton, Ohio/Wayne) vaulted to second place in the pole vault, springing 3.55-meters (11-07.75), marking her first top-three finish of the season.

How it Happened – Men
Formula Thompson (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Jamaica College/Nebraska) led the way in the field for the EMU men, placing first in the triple jump to mark a sweep of the event for the Green & White. Thompson bounded 15.07-meters (49-05.50) to capture gold. Lucky Ezechukwuchiri (Nimo, Nigeria/Busy International Secondary) continued the strong start to his career. The reigning Mid-American Conference (MAC) Men's Field Athlete of the Week placed second in the high jump with a 2.06-meter (06-09.00) jump, marking his second, second-place finish of the season.

The men's performances on the track were headlined by Carson McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes) and Gabe Singh (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Northview/Oakland). McCoy ran to a second-place outing in the 600-meter dash in 1:19.25, while Singh placed third in the 400-meter dash in 49.43. McCoy's time stands as the ninth-fastest indoor 600-meter in program history.

Outside of McCoy and Singh, the Eastern men clocked a season fastest 4x400-meter relay, as the team of Nathan Gaspersic (Painesville, Ohio/Painesville Riverside), Shelton Bass (Warner Robins, Ga./Houston County/Alderson Broaddus), Michael Hawkins (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical/Michigan State), and Josh Flake (Redford, Mich./Oak Park) combined to finish in 3:24.91 (fourth place), shaving nearly three seconds off the team's previous best time (3:27.51). The time stands as the second-fastest thus far in the MAC.
