YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Junior Lucas Johnson led the Eagles, knocking four of Eastern Michigan University's 17 hits, and driving in three of its 10 runs in a 16-10 loss to Butler University Tuesday, April 16, at Oestrike Stadium.
Senior Kyle Schroedle (Redding, Calif./University Prep/Crown College) furnished a standout performance as well, going 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, a walk and three RBI. Junior Logan Hugo (Essexville, Mich./Essexville Garber) also helped out for Eastern Michigan, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double, a home run, a walk and an RBI.
How it Happened
The Eagles got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Johnson drove in two runs for Eastern Michigan with a single that scored graduate student Blake McRae (Armada, Mich./Romeo/Lansing C.C.) and Hugo.
The Bulldogs then rallied to score six runs and take a 6-2 lead before the Eagles got back on the board in the fifth. The Eastern offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Schroedle, which brought the score level at 6-6.
Butler broke that tie and grabbed an 11-6 lead moving into the seventh, when Eastern Michigan closed the gap to 11-9.
The Bulldogs expanded their lead to 15-9 before the EMU offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the eighth. Hugo crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Eagles, bringing the score to 15-10 in favor of Butler.
The Eagles were unable to get any closer, as Butler added one run to their tally on the way to a 16-10 final.
