YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --
The Eastern Michigan University baseball team fell in the series opener to the University of Akron, 13-8, in Mid-American Conference action Friday, April 19, at Oestrike Stadium.

At the plate, the Eagles were led by junior Logan Hugo (Essexville, Mich./Essexville Garber), who went 4-for-5 on the day with two home runs and three RBI. Hugo reached the 100 hit mark in his collegiate career with his first hit of the day, a solo shot to left center in the first.

Junior Giano Zuccaro (Middleburg Heights, Ohio/Berea Midpark/Charleston) put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBI.

Senior Kyle Schroedle (Redding, Calif./University Prep/Crown College) also chipped in for Eastern, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double.

How it Happened
The Eagles were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Hugo put Eastern on the board with a one-out solo home run.

The Zips then scored five runs to retake their advantage heading into the fourth inning, when the Eagles responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Eastern Michigan pushed across a run on sophomore Cooper Vance's (New Waterford, Ohio/Mohawk) two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 6-2 in favor of the Zips.

Eastern Michigan held the Zips off the board before rallying to tie it up at six in the fifth. The Eagles bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Zuccaro.

The game remained tied until the very next inning, when Eastern Michigan got moving again on offense. The Eagles picked up a run on Hugo's two-out solo homer, his second of the day, bringing the Eastern Michigan advantage to 7-6.

Akron then mounted a comeback, taking a 12-7 lead heading into the eighth, the Eagles then cut that deficit to 12-8, as Eastern scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Hugo. The Eagles were unable to get any closer, as Akron added one run to their tally on the way to a 13-8 final.

Game Notes
» Vance had an RBI double in the fourth inning. This marks his 24th RBI of the season, also marking his sixth double of the year.
» Finishing the game with two jacks, Hugo collected his second career multi-homer game, having previously done it at Bowling Green State University, April 14, 2023. He finished the game with four hits. The game is the second contest of the season in which he has recorded four or more hits. Hugo's four RBI are also the most he has driven in this season, having previously recorded three RBI at Ball State, March 8.
» Zuccaro hit a three-run home run over the left field wall to tie the game at six at the time. The homer was Zuccaro's third of the season and it is also his first three-run shot of the season. Zuccaro would finish the game going 2-for-5. The effort is Zuccaro's fourth multi-hit game in his last six games.
» Schroedle finished the day with two hits for Eastern Michigan. Schroedle now has 14 multi-hit games on the season.
» Eastern Michigan as a team finished the afternoon with 13 hits in the game. It is the 20th game this season in which the Eagles have recorded at least 10 hits.
» Glenn Miller (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater/Spring Arbor) finished the contest with two hits, recording one double and an RBI. It was Miller's fifth multi-hit game of the season.
» Brendan Kleiman (Olney, Md./Sherwood/Frederick C.C.) recorded an RBI for Eastern Michigan and a walk as well to reach base safely twice. Kleiman now has 17 RBI on the season.

Historical Notes
» The contest marked the 65th all-time meeting between the Eagles and the Zips. The Eagles lead the all-time series, 38-27.
» Hugo hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first. The homer marked the 100th hit of his collegiate baseball career.
