SOUTH BEND, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team finished 12th in the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational Friday, Sept. 9, in South Bend, Ind. The Eagles competed against 20 other teams and finished with a score of 326.
EMU finished in the same place as they did last year, however, unlike last year, redshirt senior Abel Flores (Defiance, Ohio-Defiance) paced the squad, finishing with a team-best 25th.
"I like the way the team competed today and saw some things we will learn from," said Head Coach John Goodridge. "Certainly very excited to see the continuing development of senior Abel Flores who improved his time from last year by thirty seconds, as well as freshmen Owen Day (NRW, Germany-International School of Dusseldorf) and Hunter Moore (Lewis Center, Ohio-Olentangy Orange) getting their Eagle careers started."
The Eagles had eight runners compete, placing three within the top-75. Redshirt senior Hlynur Andresson (Vestnabbaeyjar, Iceland-Mountain Ridge) finished with the team's second-best performance, placing 41st in 24:29.8, while senior Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp Belgium-Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven) crossed the finish line in 24:40.9 to take 56th.
The Green and White return to action a week from today, Friday, Oct. 13, at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis.
