- The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's track programs will head to DeKalb, Ill. to compete in the 2011 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships, May 12-14, on the campus of the Northern Illinois University.

On the men's side, the program will look to repeat as outdoor champs, as the squad captured its 21st MAC Outdoor Championship in 2010, and bounce back from a third-place finish during February's 2011 Indoor MAC Championship.

On the women's side, the Eagles had their best MAC finish in Bowling Green, Ohio during the indoor season when the squad won its first program title since 2000. The women will look to pull off the 2010-11 sweep and take the outdoor championship this weekend as well.

RETURNING POINT-SCORERS:
Despite losing numerous members from the team's 21st MAC Championship team, the men are still more than capable to make a repeat run at the title. Terefe Ejigu, who was the 2010 outdoor Most Valuable Performer, returns after also picking up the same award during the 2011 indoor campaign. In the sprints and hurdles, the Eagles return senior co-captain Clint Allen and Vanier Joseph from last year's title team, both of whom won MAC Gold in their respective events. Jairus Saunders also tallied points for EMU.
Cole Sanseverino will look to duplicate his performance from 2010 as he took home the top spot in the 1,500-meter run. Austin Hendrix also helped the Eagles earn points in that same event, and he has been a consistent performer for EMU this season.
The other point-scorer returning for the Eagles was pole vaulter Joe Tesner.

The women also return members from last years team. Shantavia Williams and Lauren Quaintance each earned All-MAC honors last year have made significant improvements since this time last season. Additionally, five Eagles took home All-MAC honors from the indoor team which won the title. Freshman jumper Shnell Wishart, who finished second at indoors, senior captains Jessica Hemingway and Lauren Quaintance, sophomore sprinter Ashlee Abraham and junior mid-distance runner Beverly Elcock all took home the conference honors.

BEST OF THE WEEK:
Freshman 400-meter specialist Brycen Spratling, along with sprinter Clint Allen and distance runner Terefe Ejigu have all won Male Athlete of the Week for the Mid-American Conference during the outdoor season. The women have also had their share of success, as Jessica Hemingway won the award for Female Athlete of the Week for her work in the pole vault event, and sprinter Ashlee Abraham also won the award.

TOP OF THE LIST: Elite athletes at Eastern Michigan University have been showcasing their talents all season long as many participants have set the standard this season for the Mid-American Conference. Four men own top times in the MAC in their events as Terefe Ejigu owns the best time in the 5k (14:00.00), Clint Allen posted the fastest 100-meter dash (10.39), Brycen Spratling's time of 47.06 is best at the 400-meter, and Donald Scott, who just joined the team in March, owns the best triple jump (50-08.25).
