Day One Results
DEKALB, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) - After three scored events, the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team currently sits in seventh-place at the 2011 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championship in Dakalb, Ill.
It was the heroics of senior co-captain Jessica Hemingway which allowed the Eagles to score the 10 points that it notched today, May 12. Hemingway used a first-place height of 13-04.25 in the pole vault to snatch the only 10 points that the Eagles scored on the day. Two other Eagles competed in the pole vault as Meghan Powers finished 10th clearing a height of 11-03.75 and Rebecca Richman was 12th, matching Powers' height, but needing two additional tries to match the feat.
Also in the field, Angela Scarber had a 159-03 toss in the hammer throw for a 13th-place finish.
Rachel Quaintance and Tiffany Kincaid also competed for the Eagles on the day as the pair ran in the 10,000-meter race. Quaintance finished with a time of 38:39.02 (13th) while Kincaid's time of 40:16.57 was the 17th overall time.
Kent State (29 points) and Miami (25 points) currently sit atop the leaderboard, but the Eagles still have their strongest events ahead of them with sprints, mid-distance and jumps to come over the final two days of the MAC Championships.
