Eagles’ nine game winning streak snapped
LANSING, Mich. –The Eastern Michigan University baseball team had its nine game winning streak snapped at the hands of intra-state foe Michigan State, 6-3, here Wednesday afternoon at Oldsmobile Park. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 13-12 (5-1 MAC) while the Spartans improve to 13-10 (3-1 Big Ten).
Sophomore Jeff Davis went 1-for-5 with two RBI and a home run, while junior pitcher Matt Dillard (1-2) picked up the loss for the Eagles. Sophomore Josh Ivan also went 3-for4 with one run scored and junior Trumaine Riley hit 2-for-4 with one run scored from the plate. MSU’s Mike Takashima (1-0) notched his first victory of the season.
Eastern took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning as Davis hit his second home run of the season driving in Riley. However, the Michigan State line-up batted through in the bottom third scoring four runs on four hits to take a 4-2 lead.
The Spartans tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a commanding 6-2 lead.
Ivan doubled in the top of the sixth inning and later scored on an error to narrow MSU’s lead to 6-3, but, that would be all the Eagles would muster the rest of the way en route to the set back.
EMU returns to MAC play with the first of a three-game road series versus Miami on Friday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m. The Eagles currently sit in a first-place tie with Ball State in the MAC West Division standings.
