– The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped the second game of a home-and-home series to the University of Michigan Wolverines, 13-2, in a non-conference seven-inning affair at Oestrike Stadium Tuesday, April 1.

Eastern's record shifted to 13-12 (8-4 MAC) while Michigan's improved to 16-12 (7-5 Big Ten).

Michigan's Tate Carey (4-0) earned the win while EMU freshman right-hander Colin Milligan (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Hayes) (0-1) was tagged with the loss in his first collegiate start.

Freshman lefty Ethan LaPointe (Windsor, Ontario/Holy Name) was a bright spot out of the bullpen, totaling a career best four strikeouts in 2.2 innings on the bump while allowing zero earned runs.

How it Happened
After a scoreless opening inning, Michigan got the early lead in the top of the second, scoring two runs on a double to go ahead 2-0. It would grow Its lead in the ensuing inning by hitting a two-run home run to increase its lead to 4-0.

Eastern Michigan got on the board the following half inning as Cooper Vance (New Waterford, Ohio/Mohawk) sent one over the left field fence to make it a 4-1 game. After a scoreless fourth inning, Michigan expanded their lead by five in the fifth to make it 9-1.

The Eagles cut the deficit to 9-2 in the bottom half of the fifth inning as Harrison Travis (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Soddy Daisy/Carson-Newman) homered to left for his sixth of the season. The Wolverines scored one run in the sixth and three in the seventh to make it 13-2.

The score remained 13-2 as the game concluded in seven innings.

Game Notes
» Vance hit a home run in the second inning to left field for his second of the season. The junior infielder is halfway to tying his home run total (four) from the 2024 season. The homer marked his third consecutive game with at least one RBI, the second-longest stretch of doing so this season as he previously drove in at least one in five consecutive games, March 9-15.
» Travis' home run was his sixth of the season. He is tied with Ty Stecko (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin/Mount St. Mary's) for the second most on the team and sixth in the MAC.
» LaPointe's 2.2 innings on the mound served as the longest outing of his young career and marked his second without giving up an earned run. He previously tossed a scoreless outing in one inning in a 9-8 win at Michigan, March 25.
» Eastern Michigan pitchers faced 41 Michigan hitters in the game, allowing seven ground balls and five fly balls while striking out eight.

Historical Notes
» Eastern played its 403rd game against a Big Ten opponent. They have an all-time record of 151-249-5.
» The game was the 52nd all-time meeting between the Eagles and the Wolverines. EMU trails the series after the result, 34-18.
