Offensive Showing Leads Lacrosse to 16-6 Road Win

Eagles scored 35 goals during their two-game road trip to the Carolinas
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) -- Mackenzie Blackwell scored five goals, Katheryn Wilson added four, and 10 different players recorded at least one point as the Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team scored a 16-6 victory at Gardner-Webb University Thursday, Feb. 27, inside Spangler Stadium. The Eagles (2-2), who scored a program-record 35 goals over the past two games, dominated play with the help of 19 draw controls to hand the Runnin' Bulldogs (0-6) the loss.
How It Happened
Eastern surged to an early 3-0 lead as Wilson (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek) was assisted by Kyleigh Dill (Dover, Del./Dover) before providing an assist to Abby Alderman (Lusby, Md./Patuxent). Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern) made it 3-0 on a pass from Payton Bloedow (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake/Stony Brook). After a G-W goal, Wilson and Blackwell each scored their second of the game before the hosts cut the lead to 5-2 at the end of one.
The Eagles scored the first three goals of the second quarter as well with Blackwell, on an assist from Emerson Henry (Ashburn, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson), getting things started. Avery Schwab (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin-Scioto) scored what would stand as the game-winning goal before Caitlin Beahm (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) was assisted by Blackwell for an 8-2 lead at the half.
In the third, the teams traded goals with Henry scoring her first of the day. With the score at 9-4 in favor of the visitors, a lightning delay sent the teams off the field for 1:07 before coming back out and the hosts scoring to make it 9-5. But Wilson assisted Blackwell with 28 seconds remaining to build the lead to 10-5.
The fourth quarter saw the Eagles pull away as they scored the first six goals of the stanza to make it seven consecutive goals. Wilson picked up her hat trick before Henry scored the second of her first career multiple-goal game. Blackwell tallied her fifth on a pass from Schwab before Wilson netted her fourth. Finally, Amber Alderman (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) got on the board to make it 15-5 before Dill scored on a pass from Stella Burke (Peterborough, Ontario/St. Peter's Catholic Secondary) to end the EMU scoring.

» Mackenzie Blackwell recorded a season-high five goals, which ranks tied for the sixth-most in a single game at EMU. Her 27th career game with multiple goals, Blackwell has recorded a hat trick in four consecutive games to open the season to bring her career total to 21. She finished the game with six points, which tied for the fifth-highest total in EMU history.
» With her first goal in the game, a score that was assisted by Payton Bloedow, gave EMU a 3-0 lead, Mackenzie Blackwell tallied her 100th career goal. She finished the game with five totals to bring her career total to 104.
