O’Farrell scores fifth-minute game-winner as Eagles’ eighth clean sheet secures undefeated home slate

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team earned a crucial 1-0 Mid-American Conference victory over Kent State University behind senior Maddie O'Farrell's fifth-minute game-winner as the Eagles recorded their eighth clean sheet Sunday, Oct. 27, at Scicluna Field.

Eastern finished 5-0-3 at home in 2024, marking just the second time in program history and first time since 1999 that the Eagles have gone undefeated at home.

Through Sunday's matches, EMU (11 points) sits 10th in the MAC and is just three points behind fifth-place Kent State and two points behind Northern Illinois (13 points), and Miami (13 points). Central Michigan (12 points) and Toledo (12 points) are also in contention for final spots of the six-team MAC Tournament.

How It Happened
Eastern was aggressive early and able to capitalize on its first chance of the game as redshirt sophomore Sophia Baumann (Romeo, Mich./Romeo) found senior Meagan Lukowski (Bay City, Mich./Bay City), whose through ball found O'Farrell (Haslett, Mich./Lansing Catholic). O'Farrell's strike from 12 yards out clanked off the inside of the far post before fully crossing the goal line and giving EMU a 1-0 lead. The goal was scored just 4:28 into the contest.

Redshirt sophomore Ella Holland (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody/Samford) was tested throughout the match, keeping Eastern's postseason hopes alive with a remarkable reaching tip save over the crossbar with a mere 40 seconds remaining in the match.

EMU out-shot KSU by a 12-9 margin while Eastern held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.
