Robinson nets her second of the year; takes over scoring lead as a freshman

RICHMOND, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University soccer team took a 1-0 lead into halftime but was unable to hold on as the host Colonels of Eastern Kentucky University tallied two goals in the second half to grab a 2-1 win at the EKU Soccer Complex in Richmond, Ky., Sunday, Sept. 3. The Eagles (0-4-2) saw freshman Kate Robinson (Madison Heights, Mich./Lamphere) net her second goal of the campaign before the Colonels (1-3-1) came from behind for their first win of the season.

How It Happened
Both teams moved up and down the pitch on a hot day in Kentucky with the hosts nearly breaking the ice in the 8' as they stole the ball, broke in on goal, and fired a shot on frame that was stopped by a sliding Ella Holland (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody/Samford), who came off her line to make the save. After firing several shots of their own, the Eagles found the back of the net in the 27' and Robinson tallying the goal. On the play, Meagan Lukowski (Bay City, Mich./Bay City Western) stole the ball and move in on frame where she fired a shot that was saved by the EKU keeper. The resulting rebound came right to Robinson, who deftly shot the ball past the sliding keeper to make it 1-0 for the visitors and give EMU its first lead since a 2-1 score-line in the opener with St. Bonaventure University (match ended in a 2-2 draw).

Following the break, the hosts pulled level in the 52'. The Colonels earned a corner kick With Gretta Gunn sending the ball across the frame where Mackenzie Burdick tipped it to Kylie Fitzgerald, who slipped a shot past the EMU defense to make it 1-1. Just under 15 minutes later, in the 67', the hosts grabbed what would be the game-winning goal as Payton Payne carried the ball toward the top of the box and sent an arching shot into the upper 90, just over the fingertips of Holland, to make it 2-1.
