Sipsock, Synk net second-half goals
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team earned its first win of the 2025 season at the University of Southern Indiana with a 3-1 result Thursday, Aug. 28, at Strassweg Field.
Junior Olivia Sipsock (Medina, Ohio/Medina) scored the game-winner in the 62nd minute while freshman Kaylee Synk (North Olmstead, Ohio/St. Joseph's Academy) scored her first career goal in the 74th minute to boost EMU's advantage.
How It Happened
Goalkeeper Ella Holland (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody/Samford) staved off an early attempt from USI to keep the game scoreless through five minutes, despite having to leave her line as the shot from the hosts was sent back by the veteran keeper.
Eastern scored the match's first goal in the 27th minute. USI headed a well-placed set piece cross from Rosalie Takacsy (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) into its own net as Takacsy was credited with her first career goal.
EMU took its 1-0 advantage into halftime before USI leveled the match in the 49th minute.
The Eagles regained the lead in the 62nd minute as redshirt junior Sophia Baumann (Romeo, Mich./Romeo) left the ball for a cross by freshman Meredith Werner (Broadview Heights, Ohio/North Royalton) that found Sipsock in the middle of the box. Sipsock's left-footed strike slipped past the USI keeper and inside the far post to put EMU up, 2-1.
The Green and White continued to apply pressure, registering another set piece goal in the 74th minute. Junior Sarah Van Euwen (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) sent in a long cross just outside of the box that bounced around before eventually finding Synk's foot. After a quick dribble, the freshman fired a shot from 19 yards out that clanked off the right post but ricocheted off the USI keeper and trickled past the goal line.
