EAST LANSING, Mich. & LOUISVILLE, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team continues its six-game road tilt this week, first visiting in-state rival Michigan State University Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. The Eagles will then head to the bluegrass state and take on the University of Louisville Sunday, Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m.
Both games will be available via live stream. Thursday's match from DeMartin Stadium will be available through BTN Plus. Sunday's showdown with the Cardinals will be on ACC Network Extra. SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: Michigan State enters Thursday's match undefeated, collecting wins over Utah Valley, 3-1, and Marshall, 5-1. Sophomore forward Gia Wahlberg leads the Spartans with four goals, all of which were scored against Marshall. Goalkeeper Lauren Kozal has recorded six saves and allowed a single goal during Michigan State's first two games.
Also undefeated, Louisville picked up wins over Ohio State, 2-1, and Morehead State, 3-0, during the first week of games. Maisie Whitsett leads the Cardinals with two goals.
BATTLING THE BIG's: Eastern Michigan is familiar with Big Ten opponents, having met institutions from the Chicago-based conference 35 times. Overall, EMU holds a 2-28-5 ledger against the league, with wins over Indiana and Michigan State. The Eagles' most recent B1G victory came in 2014, when Eastern topped Indiana, 2-0, in Ypsilanti.
The last time EMU defeated a Big Ten opponent away from home came back in 1999 when the Green and White topped Michigan State, 1-0, in East Lansing.
EMU AGAINST THE ACC: This will be just the second time in EMU Soccer's 25-year history that they will play a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference. The University of Miami hosted Eastern Michigan Sept. 12, 2008 in Coral Gables, Fla. The Hurricanes took the win, 1-0.
EMU played current ACC member Pittsburgh on three occasions (Aug, 27, 2004, Aug. 19, 2011, Aug. 17, 2012), however, Pitt was a member of the Big East at that time.
GOAL SCORING DEBUT: Freshman Amanda Cripps (Bradford, Ontario-Trinity Catholic) became the first freshman to score for Eastern Michigan in her collegiate debut since Angela Vultaggio Aug. 19, 2011 in a 2-2 2OT draw with Pittsburgh.
VICTORY IN THE MOTOR CITY: Eastern Michigan defeated Detroit Mercy at Titan Field for the first time since Sept. 26, 2001 when it bested the Titans, 1-0, Sunday, Aug. 26.
NOTABLE PERFORMERS: Cripps and Mabel Dunn (Oakville, Ontaio-White Oaks Secondarry) earned notable performance nods from the Mid-American Conference for the first week of the season. Cripps scored in her collegiate debut while firing off six shots, four of which were on target. Dunn recorded eight saves in two games, helping EMU remain unbeaten.
EYEING THE RECORD BOOKS: Redshirt senior Kristin Hullibarger (Brooklin, Ontario-Donald A. Wilson) moved into a tie for 11th in career points after scoring during EMU's Aug. 22 2-2 (2OT) draw with Oakland. Her 43 points are tied with Paige Sheridan. In addition, Hullibager's 18 career goals rank ninth all-time in program history.
SUPER SENIORS: Returning for their redshirt senior seasons, Hullibarger and Peyton Davis (North Ridgeville, Ohio-Holy Name) look to leave their mark on EMU soccer. Hullibarger led the Eagles with eight goals and 21 points during the 2018 season and grabbed Second Team All-MAC honors. Hullibarger's 18 career goals to date ranks ninth all-time in program history.
Davis returns for her final season after sitting out the 2018 season due to injury. In the season prior, she led the team with five goals and 12 points while earning Second Team All-MAC and Academic All-MAC honors.
OFFENSIVE POWER: Of the 27 goals scored by Eastern Michigan in 2018, 26 were scored by returning members to the 2019 roster (Hullibarger (8), McNeill (7), Olson (3), Kerr (2), Frantz (1), Osborne (1), Cobetto (1), Frederick (1), Tausend (1), Chatzis (1)).
STARTING LINES: Eastern Michigan returns five of the six players who started all 21 matches during the 2018 season (Frederick, Hullibarger, McNeill, Osborne, Shira).
MAC PRESEASON POLL: The Eagles were selected to finish seventh in the Mid-American Conference in 2019 after finishing the 2018 campaign with an overall record of 10-11, 5-6 in the MAC. The Eagles return 23 of 26 members from the 2018 squad.

CONFERENCE VARIETY: EMU's 2019 schedule features seven different conferences. In addition to the MAC, the Eagles will take on teams from the A10, ACC, BIG Ten, Horizon, and MVC during non-conference play.
IRONMAN OF THE MAC: Scott Hall enters his 21st season at the helm of Eastern Michigan's soccer program. Hall is the longest tenured coach in the Mid-American Conference, and his three MAC Regular Season titles are tied for the most in conference history. Hall has compiled a 190-163-51 career record and 118-79-27 mark in MAC play.
OH, CANADA!: The 2019 Eastern Michigan roster features 11 Canadian players. The 11 members tie the 2018 roster record for most Canadian members on one team in EMU soccer history.
ON THE HORIZON: The Eagles continue their non-conference road trip with visits to Omaha, Neb. And Youngstown, Ohio. Eastern Michigan will face off against Creighton Sept. 8 at 1 p.m., followed by a matchup with Youngstown State Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.
