Eagles Plagued Again By Fog; Doubleheader Set for Sunday at 10 a.m. CT

3/2/2019 6:56:00 PM | Baseball

Sunday will feature a seven-inning contest followed by a nine-inning affair

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (EMUEagles.com) – So much for enjoying some sunshine on its spring break trip, as the Eastern Michigan University baseball team was once again troubled by heavy fog against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday, March 2. After poor visibility suspended Friday's game, the teams returned to at Chapman Field to wrap up the contest with TAMCC holding on for a 12-4 victory.

Low visibility continued to be an issue in the regularly scheduled contest, and the decision was made to postpone the non-conference tilt until Sunday, March 3. The two sides will now play a doubleheader with a seven inning contest beginning at 10 a.m. CT followed by a nine inning affair 30-minutes following the conclusion of game one.

The area remains under a dense fog advisory until Sunday at noon due to warm air moving over the bays and near shore waters. However, once the fog dissipates, scattered thunderstorms are forecasted until mid-afternoon. Stay with EMUEagles.com for any further changes to the schedule.

TAMCC 12, EMU 4
After fog suspended the contest Friday night, the conditions only mildly improved when the game resumed Saturday afternoon in the bottom of the fifth inning with EMU trailing 9-2.

TAMCC built an early 9-0 edge that included a five-run third inning that saw the Islanders collect six hits in the inning.

Eastern answered in the fifth with a pair of its own. Devin Hager (Commerce Township, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) got the offense going with a RBI double, and Taylor Hopkins (Mason, Ohio-Archbishop Moeller) collected his first career RBI with a sacrifice to home Stephen Karis (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community).

Eastern would add to its tally with a run in the top of the sixth and another on a Cameron Cruz (Chandler, Ariz.-Hamilton-Mesa C.C.) double to left in the eight. However, TAMCC would get those runs right back with a pair of RBI knocks in the eighth en route to the 12-4 decision.
