Men's Track and Field Prepares for NCAA East Regional

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team will make the trek south to Jacksonville, Fla. to compete at the NCAA East Regional, May 26-28. The Eagles will have a total of nine student-athletes competing for a spot at the NCAA Championships, while redshirt senior Solomon Simmons (Murrieta, Calif. – Murrieta Valley) already qualified to the NCAA Championship as the No. 13 seeded decathlete.
The three-day meet will begin Thursday, May 26, with the hammer throw at noon. Both redshirt senior Keith Williams (Sherman, Ill. – Williamsville) and redshirt junior Anthony Jones (Sandusky, Ohio – Sandusky) will be vying for a spot in Eugene, with Williams coming in as the No. 33 seed, while Jones enters at No. 44. The day continues at 5 p.m., when senior Jeff Elam (Latrobe, Pa. – Greater Latrobe Senior), the No. 14 seed, gets underway with the 400m hurdles prelims. Less than three hours later, junior Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio – Findlay) competes in the 400m dash prelims as the No. 31 seed, beginning at 7:45 p.m. Finally, day one will conclude at 9:40 p.m. with the 10000m run, where redshirt sophomores Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. – Mason) and Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland) will run as the No. 27 and No. 33 seeds, respectively.
The second day, Friday, May 27, begins with the javelin throw at noon, where freshman Derek Ziegenfuss (Allentown, Pa. – Parkland) comes in as the No. 25 seed. From there, based upon qualification, Brown will compete in the 400m dash quarterfinals at 6:15 p.m. Like Brown, Elam will have a similar situation with the 400m hurdles quarterfinals at 7:45 p.m. The final event of the day is the 3000m steeplechase at 9:30 p.m., where redshirt junior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio – Maumee) enters as the No. 16 seed. Additionally, sophomore Csaba Matko (Racalmas, Hungary - Szechenyi Istvan Gimnazium) also qualified in the event and comes in as the No. 42 seed.
The last day of competition, Saturday, May 28, will feature one event in which an Eagle will compete, as Fink will take part in the 5000m run as the No. 6 seed.
