TRAPP, WASHBURN EARN ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS:Following their play in the Loyola Invitational, senior Megan Trapp (Plymouth, Mich.-Canton) and junior Rachel Washburn (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) were named to the All-Tournament team. Recording points while leading the Eagles to a 1-0-1 record on the weekend, Trapp and Washburn were rewarded for their effort. The duo connected on a corner in the 64th minute of EMU's match against Loyola for the go-ahead goal on a header by Trapp.

FOUR MATCHES IN, FOUR LINEUPS USED: Four matches into the 2015 season, EMU Head Coach Scott Hall has used four different starting lineups, the latest of which helped the Eagles secure a 1-nil win over Loyola-Chicago. Freshman Kaylin Williams (Kansas City, Mo.-Winnetonka) made her EMU debut in between the posts, with senior Julia Lombardi (Oakville, Ontario-Queen Elizabeth) and redshirt junior Jennifer Bentley (London, Ontario-London) both earning starts at outside back. Senior Hallee Kansman (Farmington Hills, Mich.-North Farmington) and junior Rachel Washburn (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) continued their play from center back, rounding out the Eagles back line. Williams was one of two freshman in the starting 11 as freshman Mikayla Cupp (Ostego, Mich.-Ostego) made her second straight start. With a week to prepare for a clash with Illinois State, movement within the lineup for a fifth straight game is still a possibility as Hall and his coaching staff work to find the best starting 11 moving forward.

EMU GRINDS OUT WIN OVER LOYOLA-CHICAGO: Two days after falling to No. 19 DePaul, EMU returned to the pitch hungry for a victory over Loyola-Chciago. Despite plenty of scoring opportunities in the first half, the teams played to a scoreless draw at the break. After nearly 20 minutes of play without much consistent possession by either team, junior Rachel Washburn's (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) corner kick connected with senior Megan Trapp (Plymouth, Mich.-Canton) for the go-ahead goal in the 64th minute. For the remainder of the game, the Eagles created opportunities on the counter but more importantly held strong on the defensive end. A veteran back line combined with the outstanding play of freshman Kaylin Williams (Kansas City, Mo.-Winnetonka) in goal propelled the Eagles past the Ramblers, 1-nil.
Trapp's goal broke Loyola's 283 minute shutout streak and ended a EMU goal drought spanning 189 minutes. Defensively, Williams four-save shutout marks the first shutout win by a EMU keeper in their debut since Maggie Manville recorded a shutout against Detroit in the Eagles' 2007 season opener.

SCOUTING REPORT: ILLINOIS STATE: Illinois State University closes out a four-game homestand Friday, Sept. 4, when the Eagles travel to Adelaide Street Field in Normal, Illinois. At 1-3-0 on the season, each team will enter Friday night's bout following a 1-1-0 weekend. The Redbirds defeated Milwaukee, 3-1, before being shutout by Texas Christian University, 2-0. Struggling to keep pace with their NCAA tournament appearance of a season ago, the Redbirds' have showcased inconsistent play on both ends of the pitch.
Keely Theobald leads the team with two goals, while Brianne Richards has the lone game winning goal of the season for ISU. The Redbirds have fired off 37 shots, 23 of which have been on frame, with five goals through four games. In goal, ISU has relied on redshirt-sophomore Vanessa Niestrom. Earning all 360 minutes in net, Niestrom boasts a 2.50 goals against average with a .524 save percentage.

SCOUTING REPORT: UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS-CHICAGO: In just their second season in program history, the Flames have made significant strides in their play. UIC collected its first win in program history, Aug. 21, against Morehead State. Since earning the season-opening win, the Flames have been outscored 7-1 in the past three games.
On the defensive end, the Flames have been under constant fire as opponents have rattled off 69 shots to UIC's 39. Kelly Fritz has earned a majority in minutes in goal, making 24 saves while registering a 3.09 goals against average. Defensively, UIC's back line will have to keep pace with the speedy strikers of the Eagles.
While the Flames have benefited from goals by four different players, they haven't been able to keep pace with opposing attacks. With three of the four goals scored by the Flames have come in the first half, UIC's attack has faded in the second half.
The Flames will take the pitch at Scicluna Field, Sunday, Sept. 6, following a match against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville at Flames Field.

YOUTH SHOWCASE ABILITY TO MAKE IMMEDIATE IMPACT: Two weeks into the season and the Eagles' freshmen continue to showcase their ability to make an impact for this year's squad. Mikayla Cupp (Ostego, Mich.-Ostego) earned the starting nod against No. 19 DePaul, serving as a defensive midfielder before claiming the slot for the second straight game against Loyola-Chicago. Kaylin Williams (Kansas City, Mo.-Winnetonka) joined Cupp in the starting 11, making her debut in goal for EMU against the Ramblers. Recording four saves on her way to a shutout win, Williams appeared calm and collective in between the posts. While Williams and Cupp have broken into the starting lineup, Peyton Davis (North Ridgeville, Ohio-Holy Name) has showed flashes of talent off the bench. One of the first substitutions off the bench for Head Coach Scott Hall, Davis has seen time at forward. Seeking the first goal of her career, Davis' ability to be a threat inside the box and her development as EMU inches towards Mid-American Conference play may prove to be a difference for the Eagles down the stretch.

HALFWAY THROUGH THE NON-CONFERENCE SLATE, MAC PLAY APPROACHING: Sitting a 1-3-0 through four non-conference matches, half of the non-conference schedule awaits the Eagles. Following this weekend's matches with Illinois State and University of Illinois-Chicago, the Eagles will travel to Detroit before playing host to Green Bay. After closing out the non-conference slate, the Green and White will begin their quest for a third consecutive Mid-American Conference West Division Championship, Sept. 25, against Ball State.
