ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – A late game rally fell just short Tuesday afternoon, March 30, for the Eastern Michigan University baseball team, as the Eagles were upended, 8-6, by the University of Michigan Wolverines at Ray Fisher Stadium.

EMU drops to 10-15 with the loss, while U-M improves to 13-9 with the win.

Senior Todd Graves (St. Marys, Ohio-St. Marys Memorial), junior Zack Leonard (Canton, Ohio-McKinley), and sophomore Brent Ohrman (Adrian, Mich.-Adrian) each collected two hits for the Eagles in the loss.

The Eagles capitalized on a U-M throwing error in the first to put a runner on third and take an early lead, as senior Andrew Marshall (Mason, Mich.-Mason) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate redshirt sophomore Ben Magsig (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Lansing C.C.) and give EMU a 1-0 lead.

The Wolverines answered in the bottom of the second, posting four runs on the scoreboard and forcing freshman right hander Steve Weber (North Royalton, Ohio-North Royalton) out of the game and taking a 4-1 advantage. Michigan tacked on three more an inning later to put Eastern Michigan down, 7-1.

Down five runs going into the top of the seventh, the Eagles managed to pull within a run, as RBI doubles by Matt Skirving (Midland, Mich.-H.H. Dow) and senior Aaron Crooks (Toledo, Ohio-Ottawa Hills) helped make it a 7-6 game. But Michigan made it a two-run game in the bottom half of the inning, as an RBI single by Mike Kittle gave the Wolverines an 8-6 lead, one they would not relinquish down the stretch.

Weber took the loss for the Eagles, while Eric Katzman picked up the win for U-M.

The Eagles are back in action this weekend for a three-game series versus the Bowling Green State University Falcons. Game one is scheduled for Friday, April 2, at 6 p.m. at Oestrike Stadium and will be available on Eagle All-Access via EMUEagles.com for an audio only broadcast.
