EAST LANSING
, Mich. After dropping its first game, 6-5, in extra innings, the Eastern Michigan University baseball team rebounded for a 6-1 victory in game two of its doubleheader at Michigan State University Wednesday, April 29, at McLane Stadium.

The Eagles move to 15-29 after today's games, while the Spartans go to 18-24.

Sophomore Matt Skirving (Midland, Mich.-H.H. Dow) hit a pair of home runs on the day, finishing 3-for-7 with four RBI and three runs scored at the plate in two games.

Senior Aaron Powell (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) and junior Andrew Marshall (Mason, Mich.-Mason) each tallied home runs for the Eagles in game one. Marshall has cracked a team-best 12 home runs this season.

Senior Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood) improved his team-best hit streak to 10 games this afternoon, going 3-for-7 with two runs scored in two games, while junior Todd Graves (St. Mary's, Ohio-St. Mary's Memorial) went 3-for-7 with two RBI at the dish.

Senior pitcher Bobby Henderson (Milford, Mich.-Detroit Catholic Central) picked up the victory for the Eagles in game two, giving up no runs on just two hits over four innings to improve his record to 1-1 this season.

Freshman pitcher Kendall Lewis (Huntsville, Ohio-Indian Lake) pitched well for the Eagles in game one, going four and two-thirds innings, striking out a career-high seven batters, but took a no-decision for EMU.

In game one, the Eagles broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh, as a sac-fly by junior Jim Gulliver (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) plated Rhoad to put EMU ahead, 5-4. But the Spartans tied the game in the bottom half of the inning and went on to score the game winner in the bottom of the eighth on a Jeff Holm RBI single.

In game two, Skirving gave EMU all the runs they would need, as his two-run bomb in the third scored Gulliver to put the Eagles ahead, 2-0. Henderson and the EMU pitching staff would limit the Spartans to just one run the remainder of the contest to seal the victory.

The Eagles are back at home this weekend for a three-game Mid-American Conference West Division series, as they host the Ball State University Cardinals, May 1-3, at Oestrike Stadium. Game one is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., while games two and three are slated for 3:05 p.m. and 1:05 p.m., respectively. EMU leads the all-time series over BSU, 65-59-1, but dropped two out of three in last year's series in Muncie, Ind.
