Box Score.

KALAMAZOO
, Mich.Behind a trio of home runs, including two by sophomore Matt Skirving (Midland, Mich.-H.H. Dow), the Eastern Michigan University baseball team registered a 15-11 victory over the Broncos of Western Michigan University Friday, April 17, in game one of a three game Mid-American Conference West Division series.

The Eagles improve to 10-26 (4-9 MAC) with the win, while WMU drops to 9-23 (4-9 MAC) with the loss.

Skirving led the Eagles at the dish, going 2-for-4 with two homers, six RBI and two runs scored, while junior Todd Graves (St. Mary's, Ohio-St. Mary's Memorial) hit a two-run homer for EMU in the win.

Sophomore Zack Leonard (Canton, Ohio-McKinley) finished 2-for-6 with four RBI, while junior Jim Gulliver (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) went 4-for-6 with two runs scored and one RBI.

The EMU offense exploded for five runs in the first inning, as a pair of two-run homers by Skirving and Graves, along with a WMU error that plated one run, made it a 5-0 game. The Eagles tacked on two more in the second and three in the third to take a commanding 10-0 advantage.

But the WMU offense responded in the next three innings, as a grand slam by Simpson in the third and a slew of Bronco hits in the fourth and fifth paved the way for 10 runs, knotting the game at 10-all.

But the Eagles sealed the win in the ninth, as three runs paved the way for a four run lead, giving them the game one victory.

The Eagles and Broncos wrap up their series tomorrow, April 18, with a doubleheader at 12:30 p.m., instead of the originally scheduled 1 p.m. games, Saturday and Sunday.
