AKRON, Ohio — The Eastern Michigan University baseball team continued its hot start in Mid-American Conference action this season, defeating the University of Akron 12-6 here today, April 6, at Lee Jackson Field. Four Eagle starters collected three hits apiece en route to a season-high 18 hits overall.

Four Eagle starters collected three hits apiece en route to a season-high 18 hits overall.
Behind the stellar play of Steve Bradshaw (Lapeer, Mich.-West), Jeff Davis (Avondale, Ariz.-Westview), Mike Boyd (Huntington Woods, Mich.-Berkley), and Jim Gulliver (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) the Eagles improve to 7-19, 5-1 MAC while Akron falls to 13-10, 1-2 MAC. Freshman Tim Combs (Dayton, Ohio-Wayne) picked up his first win of his career, throwing two and two-thirds innings allowing just one run on two hits.
The Zips jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Bradshaw doubled to left-field to lead off the top of the fourth and made his way home on a Josh Ivan (Belleville, Mich.-Belleville) single. Akron added one in the bottom of the fourth, increasing its lead to 6-1 heading into the fifth inning.
The Eagles pulled within one run, 6-5, after a four run fifth. Boyd doubled to left-center before Gulliver sent a Drew Turocy offering over the right field wall, cutting the score to 6-3 in favor of the Zips. Four more singles lead to two runs for the Green and White, ending the inning with six hits and four runs scored.
Boyd and Gulliver singled to lead off the sixth for EMU. Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood) then drove Boyd in with his second hit of the day, a single to left-field. Gulliver advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Zack Leonard (Canton, Ohio-McKinley) and made his way home to give EMU the 7-6 lead through six innings of play.
EMU added four runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to run its lead to 12-6, capping its second come-from-behind victory in as many days over the Zips.
The Eagles return home to host Cleveland State University Monday, April 7. First pitch at Oestrike Stadium is slated for 5 p.m.
