COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team saw its six-game winning streak snapped by Big Ten foe Ohio State, 5-3, here at Bill Davis Stadium. Despite the loss, sophomore Josh Ivan increased his hitting-streak to an impressive 16 games.

EMU (25-18, 12-6 MAC) put up two runs on eight hits and were led offensively by senior Matt Moffett who went 2-for-4 from the plate with two runs scored. Ivan also went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Ohio State (28-14, 12-8 Big Ten) was led by Jason Zoeller and Eric Fryer who both went 2-for-4 from the plate with one run scored respectively. Trey Fausnaugh picked up his first win of the season.

EMU got on the board first in the top of the third inning as Moffett hit a double to right field and was driven in on a double by Trumaine Riley to center field to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.

With a bases loaded situation and one out in the bottom of the fourth, Ohio State’s Michael Arp singled to center field plating two runs. Josh Hula followed with a fielder’s choice to score Justin Miller and give OSU a 3-1 advantage.

The Eagles cut the lead to one, 3-2, in the top of the seventh on an Ivan single to center filed which scored Moffett. However, Ohio State came right back in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run home run by Jedidiah Stephen to put the Buckeyes up 5-2.

EMU was held scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings as Ohio State notched its 28th victory of the season.

EMU hits the road for an important Mid-American Conference West Division showdown for first place supremacy against in-state rival Central Michigan University in a three-game series, May 5-7, at Theunissen Stadium in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The game one first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, May 5.
