LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team came up with a solid effort but fell short to Louisville, 4-2, here Sunday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 4-7 on the season while Louisville improves to 4-8 overall. The two schools split the four game weekend series with two wins apiece.

Junior Brian Blackburn and freshman Eric Pelot both led the Eagles offensively going 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI respectively.

Freshman Craig Bate (0-1) picked up the loss on the mound for the Eagles going 6.1 innings pitched with four strikeouts, four walks and three runs on 30 batters faced. Senior Girffin Bailey (1-0) picked up the win for the Cardinals pitching 3.1 innings.

The Eagles added another run in the fourth to go up, 2-0, on a triple by Pelot which drove in junior Derek Lehrman. Louisville got one run back in the bottom of the fourth cutting the Eagles lead in half, 2-1, and later tied the game at two in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Derrick Alfonso. However, EMU failed to get more runs across the plate while the Cardinals added two in the bottom of the seventh on an Eagle throwing error and a sacrifice fly by Jorge Castillo.
