ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team earned a non-conference victory over Oakland University Tuesday night, sweeping the Golden Grizzlies 3-0 (30-17, 30-20, 30-18). Three Eagles tallied double-figures in kills, led by freshman Victoria Randolph, who hit .355 with a team-high 12 kills.

With the victory Eastern pushed its winning streak to three matches and improved to 8-14 on the season. On the other side of the court the Golden Grizzlies fall to 1-19 on the season and 1-19 all-time versus EMU.

In the opener, the Eagles got on the board first and never looked back racing to a 12-5 lead. The margin would grow to 12, 24-14, as the Green and White dominated the set coasting to a 30-17 decision. Junior Becky Reenders keyed the EMU charge with a game-high six kills and a .556 attack percentage.

Game two mirrored the opening frame as EMU raced off to an 8-4 edge. Oakland would battle back and knot the scores at 14-14, but Eastern would not falter closing the set on a 16-6 run to take a 2-0 mark heading in to the intermission.

The finale would be no different than the opening two chapters, as Eastern Michigan started strong out of the gate taking a 7-4 lead. EMU saw its advantage grow to 11, 25-14, as OU was never able to get things going as the Eagles took the game and the match.

For the match, Eastern hit .303 compared to just .033 for Oakland. Besides Randolph’s 12 kills, senior Lindsay Piccolini chalked up 12 kills and three block assists while Becky Reenders added 10 kills and two block assists. Junior setter Kate Sulewski recorded 35 assists, while senior Ashley Cudney continued to pile up the digs with 17.

The Eagles dive back into Mid-American Conference play this weekend with two road matches. Friday night (Oct. 27) brings a match against Buffalo, following by a Saturday evening (Oct. 28) showdown with Akron. Both matches will begin a 7 p.m.
