Women’s Soccer Nipped by Kent State in Double Overtime

KENT, Ohio – Despite a 29-19 shot advantage, the Eastern Michigan women’s soccer team dropped its third consecutive conference match to Kent State, 2-1, in double overtime here at the Kent State Soccer Field.
With the setback, EMU moves to 4-5-2 (1-3 MAC) while Kent State improves to 6-5-1 (3-1 MAC) with its 10th consecutive home match victory.
After a scoreless first half, Kent State got on the board first to take a 1-0 lead at the 55:48 mark as Caitlin Hester’s shot appeared to be pinned by EMU freshman goalkeeper Mona Budani (Whitby, Ontario-Sinclair Secondary) against the post but the referee ruled that ball had crossed the line and was pinned inside the post before it was knocked out by Budani.
Eastern responded to tie the score at 1-1 on a set piece as sophomore Katie Zundel (Utica, Mich.-Henry Ford II) notched her second goal of the season on a corner kick feed from freshman Maggie Christensen (Orland Parks, Ill-AA Stagg) at the 70:42 mark.
Kent State put the game away at the 103:44 mark of double overtime as Kimberly Dimitroff notched the game-winner to give the Golden Flashes a 2-1 victory.
EMU continues its four game road stint with a conference match versus Miami in Oxford, Ohio on Friday, October, 6 at 4 p.m.
