Megan Szabo joined Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics in the fall of 2024 as the Assistant Director of Marketing, bringing a wealth of experience in collegiate athletics marketing and game operations. In her role, she is responsible for developing and executing marketing initiatives to enhance fan engagement, drive attendance, and support the overall brand presence of EMU Athletics.
Before joining EMU, Szabo served as the Graduate Assistant of Marketing at The University of Akron Athletics Department from 2022 to 2024. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in crafting marketing strategies for multiple sports, including volleyball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, and women’s basketball. Additionally, she served as the secondary marketing contact for football, men’s basketball, the spirit team, band, and Zippy, managing social media, scripting, and promotional elements for a wide range of sports.
Her responsibilities extended to sponsorship fulfillment with Akron Sports Properties – Learfield, overseeing the internship program, and collaborating with the communications and creative departments to enhance in-game experiences. Szabo also played an integral role in organizing and managing the Women’s Basketball Pink Game, strengthening the partnership between Akron Athletics and the Karen P. Nakon Foundation.
Beyond her role at Akron, Szabo contributed to major sporting events, including serving on the NCAA Final Four Game Operations Team in April 2024. She worked closely with the University of South Carolina, the University of Connecticut, and NC State, assisting with team logistics and game operations and ensuring a seamless experience for student-athletes and coaching staff.
Szabo earned both her Bachelor of Science in Sport Management (2022) and her Master of Science in Sport Science/Coaching (2024) from Akron. During her time at Akron, she had the opportunity to work alongside notable athletes, including Enrique Freeman, a 2024 NBA Draft selection.
