Kevin Foeman was named Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Eastern Michigan University on March 2, 2023, he is entering his third season at the helm of the program in the 2025-26 athletics year.

The 2024 season proved to be a stepping stone for the program as it improved by eight wins compared to its 2023 campaign, concluding 2024 at 13-19 (7-11 MAC) after producing a 5-25 (3-15 MAC) mark in 2023, marking the team’s largest win-improvement since it won 24 games in 2010 after securing just five in 2009 (19-win improvement). Additionally, Eastern got off to a 5-1 start in conference play for the first time since 2018, capped by a thrilling five-set win on the road over eventual MAC Regular Season Champions, Bowling Green, Oct. 10.

Eastern started the season strong, winning the Hampton Inn Invitational, Aug. 31, while Ella Voorhees was named Tournament MVP and Hannah Blaney landed on the all-tournament team. As the season progressed, Foeman oversaw the emergence of Hatteras Welker who earned MAC All-Freshman honors and was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week, Sept. 23, after recording 18 blocks (averaging two per set) and adding 14 kills off 25 swings offensively for a .525 hitting percentage, leading the Green and White to a 2-1 record on the week.

Welker went on to record 135 blocks in the season, the most from a freshman in program history while standing as the second-most in a single season in the rally scoring era (2008-pres.). She led the conference in both total blocks (135) and blocks per-set (1.27), figures that ranked her 22nd and 39th in the nation, respectively.

The 6-foot-2 middle blocker paced an Eastern team that led the MAC with 305.5 blocks and slotted third in the conference with 2.48 blocks per-set. Nationally, the Eagles ranked fourth in total blocks and 52nd in blocks per set. The 2024 team's 305.5 total blocks stands as the second-most in program history in the rally scoring era, while its 2.48 blocks per set marked a program record.

Blaney was another bright spot defensively in 2024 as she served as the team’s libero and followed suit with Welker, earning her own MAC Defensive Player of the Week nod (Sept. 30). She grabbed 50 digs, averaging 6.25 per set, including a career-best 27-dig outing. At the time, Blaney stood second in the MAC with 258 total digs, a mark that ranked her 12th in the nation, while the Eagles as a team slotted 21st in the country in digs. She ended the season fifth in the conference, posting 4.13 per set and fourth in total digs with 504.

In 2023, Foeman officially wrote his name into the Eastern record books with the first win of his EMU tenure coming against Western Illinois in a five-set thriller, Sept. 2. After falling in the opening set, 25-11, the Eagles stormed back to win four of the next five sets to secure the match victory. Foeman’s Eagles went on to sweep Chicago State, Sept. 8, as well as Kent State to close out the home portion of the 2023 campaign, Nov. 11.

Foeman was instrumental in the development of Callie Minshew, who earned All-MAC Second Team honors as she totaled the fifth-most kills in the conference (416), and the fourth-most kills per set (3.89). Minshew erupted for a career-best 32 kills in the final match of her college career against Central Michigan, Nov. 15. Not only did her performance mark a career-best, but it also went down as the ninth-highest single-game kill count in program history. In doing so, Minshew vaulted herself over the 1,000-career kills mark.

Moreover, Minshew also performed in the classroom setting, as she earned her second consecutive CSC Academic All-District nod while earning her first Academic All-MAC honor.

Prior to landing at Eastern Michigan, Foeman was a highly-accomplished program leader at the Division II level with a 153-89 career record in eight seasons as a head coach.

Foeman has been the head coach at two previous schools, posting an all-time winning percentage of .632 (153-89). He was selected as the 2022 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) Coach of the Year and twice helped Ashland earn a spot in the NCAA Division II Championships (2018 and 2022). The Eagles have also captured the conference division title four times (2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022), while winning the 2022 GMAC Regular Season Championship.

Ashland was 23-9 overall in 2022, posting the best mark in the league at 16-1. The Eagles earned a spot in the Division II postseason as the No. 6 seed in the Midwest Region. Champions of the Great Midwest South Division, Ashland posted the longest winning streak in program history (15) as well as the longest number of consecutive sets won (20).

Four of Foeman’s players earned spots on the Great Midwest’s first team – middle blocker Anna Krikke, setter Zoey Peck, outside hitter Erin Krupar, and outside hitter Makenna Belcher. Krupar also earned honorable mention All-American honors from American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

In 2021, Foeman led the Eagles to an 18-13 (13-3 GMAC) record. AU won the Great Midwest South Division title and was the league tournament runner-up. Krupar had a breakout fall, as she was named an NCAA Division II All-American by both the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (first team) and AVCA (third team). Playing in all 31 matches and all 110 sets in 2021, Krupar’s total of 504 kills were No. 2 in NCAA Division II, her 5.09 points per set were tied for No. 3 in D-II, and her 4.58 kills per set were No. 5 in the nation.

During the COVID-altered 2020 campaign, Ashland notched a 9-8 record during the abbreviated spring schedule.  The squad went 2-2 at the AVCA Division II National Championship in Dallas, Texas. The tournament was created to provide a championship experience for Division II student-athletes following the cancellation of the NCAA Women’s Division II National Championship. Four players earned All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honors, as Foeman’s squads lost only three South Division matches in three GLIAC seasons.

In 2019, Ashland finished 24-7 (13-3 GLIAC), once again reaching the conference tournament and winning the GLIAC South Division title by four matches for the second year in a row. The Eagles were ranked as high as fifth in the Midwest Region, went 3-0 at the Midwest Crossover, and were in the top three in the GLIAC in kills per set (first), hitting percentage (third), assists per set (second) and digs per set (second). All seven Eagle starters earned spots on the 2019 All-GLIAC teams.

Foeman’s first campaign guiding the Eagles was an impressive one, as AU finished 25-7 overall and 14-2 in the GLIAC. The team won the GLIAC South title and reached the NCAA Division II postseason in 2018. Ashland’s winning percentage in GLIAC play was its then-best all-time. Along the way, Ashland had seven players named as all-conference honors, including GLIAC Freshman of the Year and Midwest Region Freshman of the Year.

Before arriving at Ashland, Foeman spent three seasons at the helm of Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio. In his three years at the helm, he compiled a 54-45 overall record and was 27-25 in conference play. During the 2016 and 2017 seasons, he led the volleyball program to postseason berths, with 2016 being the first postseason action in program history.

In the five seasons prior to Foeman’s arrival, Lake Erie won a combined 15 matches and just three league contests from 2010-14.

In 2017, the Storm enjoyed their winningest season in program history as they compiled a 26-9 overall record and went 15-3 in GMAC action.  The 15-3 record in the GMAC earned the Storm a GMAC East Division Championship and the number two overall seed in the GMAC tournament.  The Storm advanced to the semifinal match in the GMAC tournament.

The Storm program made tremendous strides in the 2016 season. Lake Erie was 19-16 overall and 9-7 in the conference, which set a program record for the winningest season in Storm Volleyball history. Fighting through an endless array of five-set matches (15 in total), the Storm clinched its first-ever appearance in the GLIAC playoffs where it would earn the program’s first-ever conference playoff victory over Findlay. During the regular season, the Storm notched victories over GLIAC powers Findlay (twice), Wayne State, Grand Valley State, and Northern Michigan, while statistically the Storm led the GLIAC in kills, assists, blocks, points, and finished second in digs in 2016.

Foeman’s first season at Lake Erie saw the team triple its win total from the year before, highlighted by victories over Tiffin and rival Ashland. Crystal Kedroske was named honorable mention GLIAC as she led the way on the outside for the Storm in 2015.

Under the direction of Foeman, eight student-athletes were named to all-conference honors.  Foeman had one first-team selection, six second-team selections, and one honorable mention.

Foeman was a member of the Hillsdale staff from 2013-15, where he was very involved as an assistant coach handling recruiting, organizing, promoting and running camps, leading strength and conditioning sessions, scouting, and training blockers.  In addition to his duties with the volleyball team, Foeman served as the Assistant Director of Recreation and Sports and taught a course in the general dynamics of wellness.  Also during his time at Hillsdale, Foeman helped develop and directed the Charged Up Volleyball Club, serving as Head Coach of the 18U and 14U National Teams and Co-Head Coach of the 16U National Team.

Immediately prior to Hillsdale, Foeman coached two club volleyball teams in Columbia, Md., and served as an assistant coach with his alma mater, the University of Mary Washington.  As a staff member for the Eagles’ volleyball and baseball teams from 2009-12, Foeman directed strength and conditioning programs and helped with community outreach, founding Reading Day at Moss-Nuckols Elementary School. He also established the Mary Washington Alumni Association, helping to organize alumni games.
