NASHVILLE, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped a 13-2 decision in seven innings at Vanderbilt University in the first game of a midweek series at Hawkins Field, Tuesday, Feb. 17.
The Commodores scored three runs in the first inning and led the remainder of the contest.
How it Happened
Vanderbilt took an early lead with a three-run home run to right-center field in the bottom of the first inning. The Commodores added three more runs l by the bottom of the third for a 6-0 edge.
Tristan Crane (Berkley, Mich./Brother Rice/Texas A&M Corpus Christi) drove in Eastern's first run in the top of the fourth, sending Kevin Krill (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland/Kalamazoo Valley C.C.) home. Nathan Borchardt (Stanley, N.C./East Lincoln/King) kept the momentum going, singling down the right-field line to score Ty Stecko (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin/Mount St. Mary's) and cut the Vanderbilt lead to four, 6-2.
The Commodores scored for the fourth consecutive inning with their second three-run shot of the contest to go up seven, 9-2.
Vanderbilt added two runs in both the sixth and seventh frames to end the game in a 13-2 decision in seven innings.

» Eastern's record shifted to 1-3 (0-0 MAC) and Vanderbilt's went to 2-2 (0-0 SEC).
» Tristan Crane drove in his first run as an Eagle with a base hit up the middle in the fourth inning. Nathan Borchardt joined him, recording his first hit and RBI on a single down the right-field line in the next at-bat.
» Bruce Jellison (Hartland, Mich./Hartland/Wabash Valley), Ty Stecko, and Kevin Krill each reached base for the third consecutive game.
» Greg Kennedy (Ravenna, Ohio/Jonathan Adler/Lake Erie College), Brian Henson (Huntsville, Ala./Buckhorn/Northwest-Shoals C.C.), and Aidan Norris (Platte City, Mo./Platte County/Iowa Western C.C.) made their EMU debuts.
» Ethan Davis (Brownstown, Ind./Brownstown Central/Marian C.C.) made the first start of his NCAA career.
