EMU Student-Athletes Post Highest Cumulative GPA In Department History

Student-athletes posted a 3.472 cumulative GPA and a 3.465 semester GPA
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University student-athletes set a school record with a 3.472 cumulative GPA following the Winter 2025 semester. It was also the 31st consecutive semester of earning higher than a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average.
With 479 student-athletes, Eastern recorded a 3.465 winter semester GPA. The department's term GPA is also the best since records began being tracked in the fall of 1999 with the figure slightly surpassing the Fall 2023 mark of 3.404. Furthermore, EMU notched the department's all-time best cumulative GPA at 3.472, 0.034 ahead of the previous best of 3.438 in Fall 2024.
"I'm incredibly proud of the academic performance of our student-athletes," said Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee. "This success reflects highly committed and hard-working student-athletes and our department's dedication to academic excellence. I'm especially appreciative of our coaching staff who recruit strong students and create team cultures that value academic success, as well as our outstanding professors and Student-Athlete Support Services staff members who are on the front lines in providing a first-class education."
Overall, there were 86 EMU student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs last semester, led by soccer which had 14.
Furthermore, 83.5 percent (400) of EMU student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA or higher for the semester and all but one sport had term GPAs of 3.0 or higher.
For the semester, soccer led all sports with a term GPA of 3.862 on EMU's 4.0 scale. Lacrosse (3.796) was next, while gymnastics (3.759) was third. Volleyball (3.715) and swimming & diving (3.694) rounded out the top five programs for the winter semester.
Women's basketball (3.676), football (3.314), and soccer (3.862) surpassed their previous semester GPA standards, while lacrosse (3.796) and volleyball (3.715 ) notched its second-best marks.
All 19 teams posted a cumulative GPA above 3.0, with 82 percent of Eastern Michigan student-athletes also maintaining a cumulative GPA above that mark.
