EMU’s historic season comes to an end in the conference tournament for the second year in a row

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team fell to the University of Akron, 16-4, in the semifinals of the 2025 Mid-American Conference Tournament Thursday, May 1, inside Joe Walton Stadium in Moon Township, Pa. The Eagles (8-9), the tournament's No. 2 seed, saw its season come to an end with the loss to the No. 3 seed Zips (10-7).

How It Happened
The Zips jumped out to a 2-0 lead early before Emerson Henry (Ashburn, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) took a pass from fellow freshman Katheryn Wilson (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek) and scored to cut the deficit to one. The Zips, however, would score the next three goals to take a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter started with Wilson scoring her first of the game as Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern) assisted her to make it 5-2. But Akron would go on a eight goal run that spanned the remainder of the half (9-2 at halftime) and into the third quarter before Henry scored her second with 2:04 to play in the third. Akron would add one more goal in the frame to make it 14-3 with one quarter to play. In the final stanza, Wilson scored her second of the day, this time on a pass from Amber Alderman (Lusby, Md./Patuxent), with 6:48 to play before the Zips would add one final goal to bring about the 16-4 final.

Individual Notes
» Katheryn Wilson scored her first goals since netting a hat trick against Oregon (April 11) and finished the game with a team-high three points after adding one assist. It marked the third time this year she tallied at least one goal and one assist in the same game with the previous instance coming against Detroit Mercy, April 6, with one each.
» Emerson Henry finished with two goals to mark the sixth consecutive game she tallied at least two scores. It also stood as the ninth time this year she scored multiple goals in the same game and gave her at least one goal in 13-of-17 games played in her rookie season.
» Mackenzie Blackwell led the team with nine draw control wins, tying for the ninth-highest total in a single game in program history for the fourth time in her career. Blackwell, who owns 11 of the 15 games with at least nine draw controls on the list, gave EMU a player with at least nine in a single game for the fifth time this year as Emerson Henry recorded the other four.
» With her nine draw control wins, Mackenzie Blackwell finished the season with 51 wins, the fifth-highest total in single-season history. Additionally, she became the first player in program history to finish three different seasons with 50+ draw control wins after recording 83 in 2023 and 94 in 2024.
