Eagles Finish First Day of NCAA East Regionals

Harris, Johnston, and Cernej-Garcia competed in the first day of the event
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) - Three members of the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team competed at the NCAA East Regional Championships hosted by the University of North Florida Thursday, May 23. Each athlete competed in the first round of their respective events, where the field of competitors narrows from 48 to 24.
Earning the top finish of the day was junior Micah Johnston (Toledo, Ohio-Toledo Christian), finishing 42nd-overall in the 400m with a time of 55.16. In her first appearance at the East Regional Championships, freshman Tiffany Cernej-Garcia (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Pioneer) placed 45th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.09, topping her seed by one place. Senior Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell) recorded a 47th-place finish in a competitive 100m field, crossing the finish line with a time of 11.94.
Thursday's effort completes the 2019 outdoor season for Cernej-Garcia, while Johnston and Harris both look towards their 4x100-meter relay appearance, scheduled for Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
