EUGENE, ORE. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team got the ball rolling at the NCAA Outdoor Championships today, June 8, in Eugene, Ore. The Eagles were represented by junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. – Davison) in the 10000m.
"Jordann put herself in good position early on in the race, but she wasn't able to finish off the second half," stated Head Coach Sue Parks. "The outcome was not what we wanted, but this one race doesn't take away from all that she accomplished this year and I know that it will only motivate her even more for her senior year. Jordann truly took her running to another level this year with All-American finishes in both cross country and indoor track. She is such a hard worker, competitor, and leader, and I'm proud of all of the great breakthroughs that she made this year. I'm excited to see what she can do in her final year at Eastern."
McDermitt held strong throughout the majority of the race, keeping pace with the pack until late. The Davison, Mich. native eventually crossed the finish line in 21st, clocking in at 34:17.22, which was good for Honorable Mention All-American honors. This caps off an incredible season for McDermitt, who earned All-American honors in both the cross country and indoor track & field seasons as well.
The Eagles have one final competitor on Saturday, June 10, as redshirt senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia – Lyceum #83) takes part in the finals of the 5000m. Action from Eugene is scheduled to begin at 5:25 p.m. P.T.
