McDermitt Qualifies to Second Consecutive Outdoor NCAA Championships

LEXINGTON, KY. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team got the NCAA East Regional rolling today, May 25, in Lexington, Ky. with a trio of events. Eastern had one mid-distance runner, one distance runner, and one pole vaulter compete on the day, with junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison) qualifying to the upcoming NCAA Championships.
In the 1500m first round, sophomore Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. – Zionsville Community) made her EMU regionals debut. Meyers took part in the fourth heat and clocked in at 4:32.00 to finish 10th in the heat and 37th overall.
In the final women's race of the day, McDermitt kept her strong season rolling, claiming ninth in the 10000m to qualify to the NCAA Championships for the second straight year. The Davison, Mich. native clocked in at 33:53.46 to secure her spot in the national championships by nearly six seconds. This is the third NCAA Championships she will attend this year after also qualifying in the cross country and indoor track and field seasons, where she earned All-American honors in both.
Finally, senior Natalie Uy (Kettering, Ohio – Fairmont) capped off a fantastic career at EMU in the pole vault. Uy finished the day 31st overall, vaulting 3.95 meters/ 12 feet 11.50-inches, which was just .05 meters shy of her season-best.
The NCAA East Regional continues tomorrow, May 25, with junior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. – Hempfield Area) in the 200m at 7:30 p.m.
