YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -
After a brief hiatus, the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team is set to kick off the outdoor season this Friday, heading to the Raleigh Relays, March 24-25, in Raleigh, N.C. Eastern looks to begin the outdoor season on the right foot with a solid performance against some tough teams.

This marks the third straight year in which the Green and White will begin the outdoor season in Raleigh. The meet can be followed through both live results and an ESPN 3 broadcast, with links to both available on the track and field schedule page of EMUEagles.com.

Last year, the Eagles sent a contingent of mid-distance and distance runners to the meet. Redshirt senior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio - Maumee) had a strong outing, claiming the bronze in the 10000m with a personal-best time of 29:04.92, which was nearly an entire minute better than his previous best. Not only was his time a career-best, but it was also the fifth-quickest mark in the EMU record books.

Redshirt junior Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. - Mason) had a solid race as well, claiming 12th with a personal-best 10000m time of 29:30.06, putting him eighth in program history. Finally, junior Csaba Matko (Racalmas, Hungary - Szechenyi Istvan Gimnazium) also finished within the top-20 of the 10000m, taking 19th in 29:41.70, which was also a career-best.

On day two, Scott Bradley turned in a top-20 performance in the 800m, clocking in at 1:53.56. Finally, the relay team of Josh Sabo, Kieran Reilly, and redshirt juniors Mitch Lenneman (River Falls, Wis. - River Falls) and Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland - Mountain Ridge) brought home another bronze, claiming third-place in the 4x1500m relay with a time of 16:00.03.

The event is slated to begin Friday, March 24, at 9:45 a.m. with section one of the women's 5000m, while the men's 5000m is scheduled to kick off at 10:50 a.m. Field events on Friday will start with the men's discus, women's shot put, and women's high jump at 11 a.m. Action resumes on Saturday, March 25, at 10 a.m. with the men's hammer and men's javelin throw. Track events will begin an hour later at 11 a.m. with the men's 4x1500m relay. For more information on the Raleigh Relays, please click here.
