Rowing Travels to Head of the Hooch for Final Fall Regatta

11/3/2017 12:53:00 PM | Women's Rowing

The Eagles will race 10 boats over the course of the two-day event

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University rowing team travels to Chattanooga, Tenn. Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 4-5, to take part in the 35th  Head of the Hooch. This will be the Eagles eighth time competing at the regatta, where they will race a total of 10 boats.
The Head of the Hooch is one of the world's largest rowing regattas, with 2,000 boats racing over two days.  More than 9,000 seats are rowed. 1,200 boats compete on Saturday alone, more in one day than most other regattas. Participants come from over 200 different organizations. The regatta is a head race – competitors row a 5,000-meter (3.1 mile) course on the Tennessee River ending at Ross's Landing Park in Chattanooga.

Starting off the Hooch at 1:01 p.m., the Eagles will have two boats in the Champs 8 looking to improve on last year's 17th and 24th-place finishes. Next, Eastern will put two boats in the water for the Novice 8 at 2:11 p.m. Finishing out Saturday at 5:02 p.m., EMU will enter two boats in the Champs 4 .

The sole race on Sunday for the Eagles is the Open 8 beginning at 12:49 p.m. EMU will bring four boats to the river eager to build on a strong showing in 2016. Last year, the Green and White claimed fourth, 14th, 20th, and 24th in the race.
