Cizmas Advances to 1500m Quarterfinals On Day One of NCAA East Regional

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team began competition at the NCAA East Regional today, May 26, in Jacksonville, Fla. The Eagles had one mid-distance runner qualify into the quarterfinals tomorrow, May 27, after running a fantastic race.
The first event of the day featuring an Eagles was the 1500m run prelims. Sophomore Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. – Chippewa Valley) turned in the best 1500m race of her career, clocking in with a personal-best time of 4:19.74, placing second in her heat to qualify to tomorrow's quarterfinals. In addition to being a career-best, Cizmas' time was also one of the best in EMU history, moving her up to fourth in the EMU record books.
Eastern also had one competitor in the long jump. Sophomore Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) represented EMU, but unfortunately posted a foul. She does, however, compete in the triple jump on Saturday, May 28, as well.
Tomorrow, the Green and White will continue competition at the NCAA East Regional with a pair of events. The pole vault, which will feature two Eagles, is slated to begin at 5 p.m., while the 3000m steeplechase will take place at 8:50 p.m.
