Five athletes compete on second day in North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. (EMUEagles.com)—Following the intensely-scheduled opening day of the Raleigh Relays, Eastern Michigan University's women's track and field team saw five athletes compete on the final day of the meet, March 29.
Earning the only top-five finish for the Green and White was Lydia Gomez-Diaz (Tarragona, Spain-IES Collblanc). The junior threw 54.04 meters/177 feet 3-inches in the hammer throw to claim a third-place finish. Also notching a top finish on the field was sophomore Ellie Braidic (Pandora, Ohio-Pandora-Gilboa). Braidic cleared a height of 3.50 meters/11 feet 5.75-inches in the pole vault to tie for 10th in the invitational section of the event. Rounding out action on the field, Makeda DeBardelaben (Saginaw, Mich.-Arthur Hill) leapt 11.10 meters/36 feet 5.00-inches in the triple jump.
On the track, the Eagles saw a pair of athletes place in the top-15 of their respective fields. Aaliyah McKinney (South Bend, Ind.-John Adams) took 15th in the 200m dash behind a 24.85-second mark, while Pauline Chiariglione (Ajaccio, France-University of Nice) finished 11th in the 400m hurdles in 1:01.81.
The Eagles will not have to journey as far for their next round of competition, as the team will make the short trek to East Lansing, Mich. for the Spartan Invitational. The annual meet will be held Friday, April 4, through Saturday, April 5 at Michigan State University.
