Huskies sweep both regular season meetings

DeKALB, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) –– The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team fell short against Northern Illinois University Friday evening, Nov. 12, in Mid-American Conference action here at Victor E. Court. The Huskies posted set victories of 25-23, 26-24, 25-22, as the Eagles were able to keep victory in sight each time out. The Green and White were led by sophomore Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child) who posted 15 kills and a .500 attack percentage.

EMU drops to 23-9 overall and 10-5 in league play, while NIU improves to 11-4 in the MAC and 25-5 on the season. Additionally, with the victory the Huskies earned a bye in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament that begins Tuesday, Nov. 16.

Behind Iaquaniello, freshman Paige Roback (Maumee, Ohio-Notre Dame Academy) reach double figures in kills with 10. Junior Ashley Mason (Eastlake, Ohio-Lake Catholic) distributed 34 set assists to go along with three defensive digs.

Freshman Lauren Wicinski led the Huskies with a phenomenal performance, registering team-highs of 19 kills and 16 digs for her 13th double-double. The nation's top freshman in points, kills and aces also hit a precise .455 to go along with one ace and two blocks to total over 20 points for the 16th occasion with 21.5. Senior libero Maddie Hughes, the reigning MAC West Defensive Player of the Week, continued her outstanding play by digging up 14 balls to help hold EMU to a .246 attack percentage.

Eastern Michigan closes out the 2010 regular season Saturday, Nov. 13, at instate rival Western Michigan University.
