SCOUTING THE BRONCOS: Western Michigan University finished the regular season with a four-match unbeaten streak to propel itself into the fifth seed of the conference tournament. The Broncos enter their MAC Quarterfinal matchup against the Eagles with a 9-6-4 overall record, having posted a 5-2-4 mark in MAC play. Stephanie Skowneski tallied her league-leading and school-record tying ninth goal of the season in a 2-1 victory in the finale against Northern Illinois. She also ranks among the league leaders in points (22) after tallying four assists as well. Brittney Pavlica has five goals this season while Anina Cicerone and Megan Matula each have four scores. In goal, Julia Francy has an impressive 0.74 GAA to her credit along with five shutouts on the season. She has allowed just 14 goals and made 74 saves in 18 starts this season.
LAST TIME OUT: The Eagles closed out the regular season with a 3-0 loss at Central Michigan University Thursday, Oct. 28. It was the sixth straight year that EMU and CMU have battled it out in the regular season finale with the Chippewas winning half of those matchups. Eastern Michigan had gone unbeaten through its first nine MAC contests, but dropped its final two to the top two teams in the league - Toledo and CMU - to end the regular season. EMU looks to make it back to the MAC Semifinal round for the third consecutive season.
EAGLES AND BRONCOS MEET AGAIN: Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan will lock horns for the second time in two weeks when the two teams meet up for a MAC Tournament Quarterfinal matchup at Scicluna Field, Sunday, Oct. 31. The last two meetings between the Eagles and Broncos have each resulted in double-overtime draws including their previous meeting back on Oct. 17, when both teams played to a 1-1 tie in Ypsilanti.
ANOTHER ONE IN THE BOOKS: The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team concluded yet another regular season - the 16th in the program's history - falling to Toledo but having already clinched the fourth seed in the 2010 MAC Women's Soccer Tournament. The Eagles finished 6-2-3 overall and registered 20-plus points in conference play for the ninth time in school history and third season in a row.
MAC TOURNEY TIME: Eastern Michigan will serve as the fourth seed in the 2010 MAC Tournament and host a MAC Quarterfinal contest for the third straight year. They defeated sixth-seeded NIU, 2-0, in 2008 followed by a 3-0 victory over Kent State in 2009. The Eagles are 8-7-3 all-time against the Broncos. The Eagles are 7-11 all-time in MAC Tournament games with two losses occuring in overtime. EMU has won three of its last five tournament matches and faces Western Michigan in the MAC Tournament for the third time on Sunday. The previous two meetings each resulted in victories back in 1997 and 2001.
