YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Friday the 13th proved to be unlucky for the Eastern Michigan University volleyball team as the Huskies of Northern Illinois University downed the Eagles, 3-0 (21-25, 18-25, 21-25), in a Mid-American Conference tilt here at the Convocation Center.

The Eagles were looking to improve their record, but was unsuccessful, falling to 5-26 overall, and 4-11 in the MAC. Meanwhile, NIU moved to 14-14 overall and 8-7 in the league.

EMU junior middle blocker Jennifer Swartz (Canton, Mich.-Westland John Glenn) led the Eagles with 11 kills and two digs finishing with a .240 attack percentage. Meagan Schoenrock had the match high of 19 kills and a hitting percentage of .319. The Huskies were able to close the match in just three sets (25-21, 25-18, and 25-21)

The Huskies took the first set by a 25-21 margin. Eastern led most of the set until a couple of errors plagued the Eagles giving the Huskies a three point run that could never be recovered. Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child) and Swartz led the Eagles with four kills apiece while Schoenrock had the set-high of six kills and two digs for Northern Illinois.

The second set was a slow start for the Green and White. The Huskies went on a six point rally, giving them an early advantage. Three service errors for the Eagles made it hard to come back on top, as Northern Illinois won the set by a score of 25-18.

The third set was a close one going neck-and-neck late in the set until the Huskies proved to be too much for the Eagles taking the set by four points, 25-21.

The Green and White will finish up the regular season with a Mid-American Conference contest Saturday, Nov. 14, against instate rival Western Michigan University. First serve at 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
