EMU out-shoots UDM 24-8
DETROIT, Mich.- The Eastern Michigan University soccer team and the University of Detroit-Mercy battled to a scoreless double-overtime tie, Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Titan Field in Detroit. The Eagles out-shot the Titans, 24-8, but were unable to find the back of the net.
With the tie, the Eagles move to 1-0-2 on the young season while Detroit goes to 1-1-1. Sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Manville (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) recorded her second straight shutout, collecting seven saves on the afternoon.
Neither team could find the offense in the first half, as the teams battled to a 0-0 draw after the first frame. The Eagles totaled 10 shots in the first half, compared to just five for the Titans.
The second half was the same story as the first, with neither team able to find the back of the net. The Eagles controlled the ball offensively for most of the half, out-shooting the Titans, 12-3. EMU had an opportunity to score with time winding down, but freshman Chelsea Detrick’s (Grosse Pointe, Mich.-Grosse Pointe) shot was just wide, sending the game into extra time.
The Eagles once again had a chance in the second overtime, with Detrick’s shot from 20 hitting the cross-bar with 2:20 left in the period. EMU would not be able to put a goal on the board, ending the game in a scoreless tie.
The Eagles are back in action Friday, Sept. 5 when they travel to East Lansing to take on the Michigan State Spartans. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at the DeMartin Soccer Complex.
