Third Shutout in a Row for EMU
YPSILANTI, Mich. —The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team notched its third consecutive home shutout this afternoon, defeating the University of Akron, 7-0, in Mid-American Conference play here at the Chippewa Club in Mid-American Conference play. The win moves the Eagles to 11-8, 3-2 MAC on the year while the Zips fall to 9-10, 0-6 MAC.
The Green and White were able to grab the early momentum sweeping the doubles matches for the second straight match, taking a 1-0 advantage into singles play.
With a 1-0 lead, the Eagles kicked it up a notch in singles play, recording straight set victories in five of the six matches. Yana Parfenyuk extended her unbeaten streak in MAC action to four matches with her 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Amy Sherlock. Also collecting wins in singles play were Vanessa Frankowski, Aditi Krishnan, Tina Bestehorn, Emma Czarnecki and Laura Fernandez.
"We've played well in our last three matches, and tomorrow will be a battle against a strong Buffalo team", said head coach Ryan Ray. "A win can put us right back in great shape in the conference."
The Eagles will look to remain perfect in the month of April tomorrow, April 14, as they host MAC rival Buffalo in the final home match of the season. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
