Sophomore Maggie Christensen nets lone goal

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team continued Mid-American Conference play today as they traveled to Toledo, Ohio for a MAC West match against the Rockets. EMU pushed the undefeated Rockets to two overtimes, but fell just short, dropping the match 2-1 at Scott Park.
With the loss the Eagles fall to 3-5-2 (1-2 MAC) while Toledo moves to 8-2-1 (3-0 MAC) and extends their current and school record winning streak to six matches.
The Eagles were able to strike first with Maggie Christensen taking an Ashley Rodrigues pass to net her fourth goal of the year. The first half would come to a close with EMU holding a 1-0 lead over the Rockets.
Just seven minutes into the second half, Toledo would even the score by way of a Molly Cornwell penalty kick. Defense would be crucial as both teams were unwilling to relinquish the lead, as overtime would be needed to settle the match. In the second extra frame, the Rockets would again capitalize on a penalty kick as Cornwell would find the back of the net for the game-winning goal.
The Eagles will wrap up action this weekend on the road as they remain in Ohio, traveling to Bowling Green on Sunday, Oct. 7, to square off against the Falcons. Start time for this match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
