Men's Track Splits Double-Dual

Eagles defeat MAC-rival Central Michigan and fall to Michigan State
MT. PLEASANT, Mich.-—The Eastern Michigan University men’s track team split a pair of dual meets here Saturday, defeating Mid-American Conference rival Central Michigan University, 112-60, and falling to the Big Ten’s Michigan State University Spartans in a tight, 99-92, dual. The meet was held at CMU’s Lyle Bennett Track and Field Complex. The double-dual meet was the only one of the spring season for the Eagles.
Head Coach Brad Fairchild’s Eagles turned in four first-place finishes and eight runner-up spots in the day-long meet.
Sophomore hurdler Eric Alejandro (Pembroke Pines, Fla.-Flanagan) won the 400-meter hurdles in :54.81 and came back to record a third in the 110-meter hurdles in :14.89. Junior Corey Nowitzke (Monroe, Mich.-Monroe) won the 1500 meters in 3:56.83, Henrick Lechebo (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Toronto Collegiate-U. of Florida) won the 3,000 meters in 8:33.74 and the EMU 4 x 400-meter relay team won its race in a time of 3:22.14.
Senior Roy Shavers (Flint, Mich.-Central) came up with a pair of runner-up finishes, finishing second in the 200 meters in :22.09 and also finishing second in the 400 meters in :49.13. Kyle Holmes (Detroit, Mich.-Country Day) also had two seconds, with a 21-feet-2.75 long jump finish to go along with a 44-feet-2 inch triple jump.
EMU will now head to Knoxville, Tenn. next weekend, April 14-15, to compete in the Sea-Ray Relays.
