ALLENDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team finished its first competition of the weekend with a first-place finish at the GVSU Big Meet Friday, Feb. 9 in Allendale, Mich. The meet saw five individual first-place finishes, as well as six personal-records set.
Junior Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell) and senior captain Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa.-Hempfield) continued to dominate the 60m and 200m dash, as Harris claimed first in the 60m for the fourth time this season, while Jones earned the same placement in the 200m. Harris tied her impressive career-best 60m time of 7.48, before finishing closely behind Jones in the 200m, as Jones took home gold with a time of 24.08, while Harris placed second in 24.49.
Sophomore Micah Johnston (Toledo, Ohio-Toledo Christian) had an impressive outing in the 400m, earning first place while tying her personal record of 54.92. Junior Ayanna O'Neal (Cincinnati, Ohio-Withrow) also had a solid day in the 60m hurdles, capturing first place as she posted a personal-best, crossing the finish line in 8.50 while crushing her old time by nearly two tenths of second.
As for the field events, senior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia-Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) turned in a pair of strong performances, placing first in the triple jump with a distance of 12.61m before taking second in the long jump with a mark of 5.70m. Fellow senior Allyson Goff (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) also earned second place in her respective long jump group, reaching a length of 5.78m.
