Softball Picked Sixth in the West in MAC Preseason Poll

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University softball team was predicted to finish sixth in the Mid-American Conference West Division as voted by the coaches, the conference announced Friday, Feb. 9.
In the East Division, Kent State was the predicted champion with six out of the 12 possible first-place votes. Ohio, who earned three first-place votes, finished in second, followed by Miami. The RedHawks garnered two votes for the top spot, ultimately ranking third, while Akron, Bowling Green, and Buffalo rounded out the division.
Four different teams received votes to win the West, with Northern Illinois coming out on top despite Central Michigan earning five of the first-place votes. Ball State came in second with a pair of first-place votes, while the Chippewas were slated third. Rounding out the West is Western Michigan, Toledo, and Eastern Michigan.
Kent State was picked as the preseason favorite to win the 2018 MAC Tournament Championship, leading the way with three votes, while five other teams received nods. Northern Illinois, Ball State, and Akron all received two votes, and Toledo garnered a vote.
The Green and White kickoff the 2018 season at the EMU Madeira Beach Invitational Feb. 16-18, in Madeira Beach, Fla.
