YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team returns to Mid-American Conference competition Friday, Feb. 9, as it takes on the Huskies of Northern Illinois in the Convocation Center. Action is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

EMU vs. NIU in Recent History: Over the past 10 years, Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois have split each of its 10  regular-season meetings, as both teams hold a 5-5 record against one another since 2008. However, the Eagles hold a considerable edge when they play host to the Huskies, amassing a 4-1 record in Ypsilanti over the same time span.
This season, the two squads head into the Convo with similar resumes, as both EMU and NIU hold records of 0-2 in conference action, while boasting average team scores of 194.145 and 194.140, respectively.

Last Time Out: The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team earned its third win of the season with a 194.900-194.250 victory over the University of Illinois-Chicago, Friday, Feb. 2 inside the Convocation Center. The Eagles swept the event titles en route to their second-best team score of the season, alongside EMU's wrestling team who pulled out a 26-10 win over conference foe, the University at Buffalo.
Additionally, the meet saw seven gymnasts either break or tie their career records, along with three who tied season highs in their respective events.

Improvements on Floor:  The Eagles have seen a boost in production on floor over the past two meets, which also coincides with the return of senior Kirsten Gendron. In Gendron's 2018 debut at the MSU Quad, the team posted their season-high in the event with a 48.900, which was due in large part by her routine, as she earned a score of 9.825, tying teammate Emili Dobronics for the team-high. The duo of Dobronics and Gendron once again made a significant impact last time out, as the two posted the top and third-best scores of the meet with a 9.8250 and 9.775, respectively. The event squad as a whole tallied a score of 48.775, which serves as the second-best floor score of the season. Additionally, Dobronics and Gendron are now ranked fourth and sixth in the Mid-American Conference floor standings, respectively.

Looking Ahead: Eastern completes its three-meet home swing when it welcomes the Redbirds of Illinois State to Ypsilanti, Thursday, Feb. 15. Following the meet against ISU, the Eagles will begin their month-long slate of away competition, beginning with a trip to Kent, Ohio as they square off against the Golden Flashes Sunday, Feb. 25.
