Bogdanova qualified in the 3000m and is a member of the record-setting DMR team
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team's distance medley relay squad earned a bid to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, the league offices announced, Tuesday, Feb. 27. The meet will be held Friday-Saturday, March 9-10 in College Station, Texas.
After the dust settled from the indoor regular season and conference championships, Eastern's DMR team that set the EMU all-time record at the Alex Wilson Invite, Feb. 17, remains the seventh-best relay group in the country. The team made up of redshirt senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83), and seniors Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa.-Hempfield Area), Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley), and Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium-Sportschool KA2) ran to a blistering time of 11:00.51, punching themselves a ticket to the championship meet by ranking as one of the top-12 times in the country. Additionally, after Bogdanova's outstanding 2018 indoor campaign, she has qualified for the 3000m and will participate in the event on the second day of competition. Furthermore, junior Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community) was selected to act as an alternate for the DMR team.
Each member is coming off the heels of an incredible Mid-American Conference Indoor Championship, where all four earned First Team All-MAC honors en route to the team winning its third conference title in four years. Given Bogdanova's dominant performance throughout the duration of the meet, winning gold in the 5000m, silver in the 3000m, and bronze in the mile, the Kazan, Russia native was named the conference championship's Most Valuable Performer. Joining her in the post-meet award ceremonies was Jones, who was tabbed Most Outstanding Track Performer after placing first in both the 200 and 400m dash. Additionally, Cizmas captured gold in the mile run and silver in the 800m, while Wyns notched first place in the 800m. Cizmas and Wyns also acted as pivotal pieces in the meet's DMR squad that earned first place, while Jones anchored the 4x400 relay team that finished in second.
The four have a week off before they head down south to compete in the Gilliam Indoor Stadium. Fans can follow along via live stats by clicking here, or by following the link listed on the women's track and field schedule page on EMUEagles.com.
