OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team began the hunt for its fourth consecutive Mid-American Conference Championships, Wednesday night, Feb. 28. EMU posted a first and third-place finish in a pair of relays to tie the Green and White for first-place with 72 points.
In the 200 medley relay, the Eagles turned in a record-setting time of 1:27.89, claiming third in the race, as senior Logan Burton (Chesapeake, Va.-Hickory), junior Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary), and freshmen Ben Brooks (Avon, Ohio-Avon) and Carter Swift (Shepparton, Victoria, Australia) teamed up to lead the Eagles.
Eastern had its best placement of the night in the 800 freestyle relay, where EMU captured its first MAC title in the event since the 2016 championships. The cohort of Burton, sophomore Matan Segal (Lehavim, Israel-Hof HaSharon), and juniors JF Murphy (Motreal, Quebec-Sainte-Anne) and Jake Tyson (Ipswich, England-Northgate), shaved nearly 11 seconds off their seeding time to clock in a time of 6:29.05, breaking the previous pool record by more nearly five seconds. The record, which had been in place since 2012, was previously held by Missouri State.
